Aiming High for disabled children offer

Nettlecombe Farm in Whitwell is now offering a variety of activities for disabled children and their families and carers though the government’s Aiming High for Disabled Children programme. The vision behind the initiative, which at a local level, is jointly run by the Isle of Wight Council and the NHS, is "for all families with disabled children to have the support they need to live ordinary family lives as a matter of course".

Nettlecombe Farm is nestled in the heart of the rolling South Wight countryside, at the top of a quiet lane, around half a mile from the village of Whitwell. It offers nine luxurious self-catering holiday properties and three well-stocked coarse fishing lakes.

The activities being offered are fishing and fishing tuition by a qualified angling coach. Fishing is being offered free (normally £5 per day). And there is also the opportunity for an affordable holiday without the inconvenience and expense of leaving the island; ‘Stay on a farm’ overnight breaks in Nettlecombe Farm’s luxurious self-catering accommodation are also available at substantially discounted rates, for parties that include a child or young person who meets the Aiming High eligibility criteria.

We have a number of disabled children who visit from the mainland and have often thought how rewarding it would be to be able to offer something to local children with disabilities. The Aiming High programme has allowed us to do this and we very much look forward to making a difference to the lives of these children and their families.”
